Tanya Heaslip is an Australian author based in Alice Springs, Northern Territory. She was raised on a cattle station north of Alice Springs during the 1960s and 1970s. Tanya learnt about the outside world through correspondence and School of the Air. She spent many hours dreaming of the overseas lands depicted in her childhood story books. Tanya went on to become a lawyer but never stopped dreaming. This led her to the Czech Republic to teach English in 1994, four years after the Berlin Wall fell.
Returning to Australia some years later, Tanya wrote about her experiences and love for the Czech Republic: ‘Alice to Prague‘. Practising law and finalising her memoir over many years has been a journey for Tanya, who now lives back in Alice with her husband.
Her second memoir: ‘An Alice Girl’ was published in May 2020. It tells the stories of her childhood in outback Australia. A time spent with stockmen mustering cattle, playing cattle duffers on horseback with her siblings, and her growing awareness of the demands of the land and what was required to survive. Tanya is excited to share these stories with you and looks forward to your feedback!
